Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a thick stubby small triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section.  The cross section is elliptical.  The blade may vary from straight to excurvate.  The shoulders are weak to absent and at an upward angle.  The stem may range from straight to slightly expanding with a straight to convex base.  This point is usually crudely made and has a random flaking pattern.

Size Measurements:  Total Length - 15 to 27 mm,  Stem Length - 4 to 9 mm (typically 1/3 to 1/2 of the total length),  Blade Width - 11 to 18 mm,  Thickness - 4 to 7 mm

This point is primarily found in the Nueces River-Rio Grande River corridor and possibly in the Lower Pecos  region of southern Texas and into Mexico.

Davis (1995) notes that the Zavala point and the Figueroa point are similar in appearance and outline. The shoulders of the Figueroa point are usually more prominent and the basal width is wider than characteristic of Zavala points. The Zavala point are considered arrow point while Figueroa are considered a dart point (Moore, 2015).
