Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a thick medium triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may vary from straight to excurvate.  The shoulders range from horizontal to having an upward angle.  Rarely, the shoulders may have a downward angle, but not barbed.  The stem is primarily straight, but may range from slightly contracting to slightly expanding.  The base is straight and usually unfinished with the cortex still present on the stem.  This is generally a crudely made point with a random flaking pattern.

This point is primarily found in eastern Texas and into western Louisiana.

Additional Comments:

The cortex is generally present on this point and the stem is often unfinished and minimally worked.  This is the key distinguishing characteristic of this point (Johnson et al., 2002).  This point is similar to the Kent point which also retains some of the cortex on the base.  It has been argued that this is not a true type, but a mixture of crudely made stemmed points with poorly worked bases.  However, there are many professional references to this type.
