Richie was a prominent anthropologist who served as the state archaeologist for the State of New York, the State Museum and Science Service. He excavated over 100 sites in the state of New York and published over 150 professional publications. He named this type in a professional publication and this type has many professional references. Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a large thick triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is excurvate and may vary to straight. The shoulders are primarily horizontal, but may vary to having an upward slope, and may be weak. The stem commonly has parallel sides, but may be slightly contracting or expanding. The base may range from straight to slightly concave. The base commonly has light grinding present. This point commonly has a well executed wide expanding scars across both faces with finer pressure flaking used along the edges forming a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:
Length - 45 to 115 mm (smaller examples could be due to reduced blades due to re-sharpening), Width - 25 to 60 mm (30 to 45 mm most common), Stem Width - 15 to 28 mm (average 20 to 25 mm), Thickness - 7 to 13 mm.
