Dincauze is a renowned Anthropologist who has specialized in prehistoric archeology of eastern and central New England and was a professor at the U Mass Amherst.  This point was named in her book on the Atlantic Phase culture and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular stemmed to contracting stemmed point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may vary from excurvate to straight with some examples flaring out at the shoulders.  The shoulders are prominent and may range from horizontal to having a slightly upward angle.  The stem is short and slightly contracting with a base that us usually straight, but may vary to convex.  This point has a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:

Length - 40 to 110 mm,  Stem Length - 9 to 19 mm,  Blade Width - 25 to 50 mm.

This type is commonly associated with Massachusetts and the surrounding region.  In 1996 the Journal of New York State Archaeological Society identified this type that was found in sites in southern New York.

This type has many professional references, but it seem to have more acknowledgment as a distinct type in collector sources.
