Perino was a well-respected self-taught archaeologist who was the founder of the Illinois State Archaeological Society.  This point was named in a professional publication and has many professional references to this type.  This is a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is excurvate with many examples curving back in towards the base at the shoulders.  The blade may become straight with re-sharpening.  The shoulders are barbed often extending half to the full length of the stem.  The shoulder are reduced in re-sharpened examples.  The stem may vary from straight to slightly expanding with a straight to slightly convex base.  Basal corners range from sharp to rounded.  This point is manufactured using random percussion flaking with pressure flaking used to retouch the blade forming a random flaking pattern.  
Size Measurements:

Length - 20 to 33 mm,  Blade Width - 10 to 15 mm, Thickness - 2 to 4 mm.

Age Details:
Radiocarbon dating from the Kampsville Site from levels containing Kampsville Barbed points showed dates of 2,770 +/- 70 and 2,550 +/- 70 B.C.E. The Axedental Site had a radiocarbon date of 2,600 +/- 70 B.C.E. in levels containing Kampsville Barbed points (Emerson et al., 2012). This points is part of the Kampsville Phase of Illinois.
