Webb was a trained pediatrician who became interested in archeology. In 1940 he became the charter member of the Society of American Archeology. He conducted many collaborative excavations and conducted his own excavations at Poverty Point and Gahagan Mounds. He was a well-respected archaeologist. Ford was a distinguished archaeologist who built the chronology of cultures within the lower Mississippi River Valley. He conducted excavations at Poverty Point with Webb. This type was named in a professional publication and has many professional references. This is considered a valid type.
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is primarily excurvate, but may be straight. The blade is commonly narrow, but rarely, the blade may be beveled or serrated. The shoulders range from slightly barbed to horizontal or straight. The stem may range from straight and square to slightly expanding. The base may be straight to slightly convex, however, rare examples may be slightly concaved. This point is commonly has a high quality of workmanship. This point has a random flaking pattern.

The primary distribution of this point is the lower Mississippi River Valley and into eastern Texas. May also be found in the Tennessee River Valley, the Ohio River Valley, and into the mid-Mississippi River Valley.
