Distribution:
Distribution Comments:
This point is primarily found on the
Chilcotin Plateau of British Columbia and into the Columbia Plateau of
Washington. Has been found in Bonner Co, Idaho. However, many books show similar points
associated with Kavik points of the Athapaskan cultures found as far
north as the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Alaska.
Additional Comments:
Small corner notch points are commonly found in the same distribution, but
fell out of favor about 1,000 years ago and were replaced by these small
side notch points (Prentiss and Kuijt, 2004).
This point is similar to the Desert Side Notch series found in the Great
Basin and surrounding region. This point is associated with the
Athapaskan Culture and is not the same as the same as the Desert series nor
the Plains series.
The point progression in the mid to lower Frazier River Valley is: Cody
points, Nesikep, Lehman, Lochnore, Shuswap, Plateau Horizon, Kamloops.
