Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a medium triangular side notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate, but may vary to pentagonal with parallel sides and the top pointed inwards.  U-shaped notches enter the side of the blade forming a shoulder that is horizontal and an expanding stem.  The base may range from slightly convex to slightly concave.  This point has a random flaking pattern. 

Size Measurements: 
Total Length - 40 to 60 mm (average 33 mm),  Stem Length - 6 to 13 mm,  Blade Width - 17 to 26 mm,  Neck Width - 10 to 17 mm,  Stem Width - 17 to 22 mm,  Thickness - 5 to 8 mm

This point is primarily found in the Jornada region of New Mexico, Arizona, Chihuahua, and Sonora.  These points are found into western Texas, but have not been reported into the Big Bend region of Texas.

MacNeish was a pioneering anthropologist who was most notable for his excavations and studies at Tamaulipas Mexico.  This type has been references in professional publications and has many professional references, but the number of examples are limited and more examples are needed to fully evaluate this type.  This is considered a provisional type.

Age Details:
At the Todsen Cave and North Mesa site these points occur in the late Keystone and early Fresnal levels.  At Bat Cave these points were found in the Chiricahua Levels.
