Heizer was an eminent anthropologist and a professor at the University of California – Berkley.  Heizer was influential in promoting our understanding of the archaeology of California and Nevada.  Elsasser was a pioneering anthropologist and professor at the University of California.  He was an expert on the archaeology of California.  This type was named in a professional publication and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium triangular corner to side notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate, but may become straight with heavy re-sharpening.  The shoulders may range from slightly barbed to horizontal.  The stem is expanding with a straight to slightly convex base.  This point has a random flaking pattern.    
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 31 to 93 mm,  Stem length - 10 to 18 mm,  Blade Width - 22 to 28 mm,  Neck Width - 13 to 19 mm,  Basal Width - 16 to 23 mm,  Thickness - 6 to 12 mm

It has been argued that this is a "regional analog of Elko Corner Notched" type by Robert Elston (1994). Others have viewed this type as an unrelated assemblage of types that are only related in the use of basalt and Middle Archaic technology (Makoto Kowta, 1988).

This point is primarily found in the Sierra Nevada range and surrounding regions of California and Nevada.  This point has been found as ear east as Humboldt Lake bed in Nevada and south to Huntington Lake in California. This point has been found in the central coastal ranges of California and north to Honey Lake in California.
