Justice is a distinguished archaeologist and Assistant Director and Curator of Collections at Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology at Indiana University. This point was named in his book on points of the Southwest. There are currently few professional references to this type, but that may be due to the limited distribution and number of examples. This is considered a valid type.
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section. The blade may vary from excurvate to straight. Larger examples tend to have a slightly excurvate blade. Heavy re-sharpening reduces the length of the blade and may give the blade a straightened shape. Many examples have serrations on the blade. The shoulders may range from slightly barbed to horizontal. Heavy re-sharpening reduces the shoulders. The stem may vary from straight to slightly expanding with a straight to slightly convex base. This point may range from oblique, collateral, or random flaking pattern.
