Cambron is a distinguished avocational archaeologist that did extensive work in Alabama and the Tennessee River valley.  Hulse is a renowned avocational archaeologist who did extensive work in Alabama.  This point was named in a personally published book.  This point has been referred to in numerous professional publications and is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium triangular side notch point.  The cross section may range from elliptical to flattened.   The blade may range from straight to excurvate, in some examples one blade may be straight while the other blade is excurvate.  The blade is commonly finely serrated.  This point has shallow parallel notches with a horizontal to upward angle shoulders.  The stem is expanding.  The base is primarily convex, but may vary straight.  The base is rarely ground, but is commonly beveled.   The flaking pattern is random.
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 37 to 72 mm (49 mm average), Stem Length - 7 to 11 mm (9 mm average),  Blade Width - 24 to 32 mm (27 mm average),  Neck Width (notch) - 7 to 8 mm,  Stem Width - 19 to 29 mm (24 mm average), Thickness - 7 to 10 mm

These points were found from surface collections on pre-shell mound sites in the Wheeler Valley of the Tennessee River Valley which points to an Early Archaic association. However at the Flint Creek Rock Shelter and the Stanfield-Worley Bluff Shelter this point was found the the Middle Archaic stratum which has placed this point more correctly in the Middle Archaic period (Cambron, 1975).

These points were originally classified as Upper Valley Side Notch for examples found at the Damron Site and the Quad Site (Cambron, 1975).
