Dejarnette what the first anthropologist hired by the University of Alabama and was an expert on southeastern archaeology.  Kurjack studied Alabama archaeology as a graduate student at the University of Alabama and went on to become an expert on Mayan anthropology.  Cambron is a distinguished avocational archaeologist that did extensive work in Alabama and the Tennessee River valley.  This point was named in a professional book.  This point has been referred to in numerous professional publications and is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small to medium (1 to 1.75 inches) expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily straight, but some examples may be excurvate.  Most blades have fine serration.  The shoulders may vary from slightly upward angled to slightly barbed.  The stem is most commonly expanding, but may have a straight stem.  The base is usually straight, but may range to slightly convex or slightly concave.  Bases tend to have basal thinning.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Total Length -27 to 46 mm (36 mm average), Stem Length - 6 to 9 mm (8 mm average),  Blade Width - 20 to 30 mm (25 mm average),  Stem Width - 13 to 20 mm (16 mm average), Thickness - 5 to 7 mm
