Atkinson was an archaeologist for the National Park Service He is a well published author of archaeological and anthropological publications.  This type was named in the excavation reports on the Vaughn Mound Site, and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thick medium triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section.  The shoulders are weak and are at an upward upward angle.  The stem is short and broad with straight edges and rounded basal corners and a base that ranges from straight to slightly convex.  This point has a random flaking pattern and is commonly crudley made..
Size Measurements:

Length - 45 to 48 mm (average 47 mm), Width - 28 to 36 mm (average 30 mm), Thickness - 10 to 13 mm (average 11 mm).
