Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a small to medium (1.5 to 2.5 inches) triangular side notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate.  Shallow parallel notches are low on the blade.  The notches are deeply beveled.  The shoulders are at an upward angle.  The stem is expanding with a concave base.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Size Measurements:  Total Length - 35 to 64 mm (average 36 to 44 mm),  Stem Length - 5 to 8 mm,  Blade / Basal Width - 18 to 25 mm,  Neck Width - 16 to 22 mm,  Basal Concavity - 1 to 3 mm,  Thickness - 5 to 9 mm

Distribution Comments:

This point is primarily found in the Piedmont region from Virginia to Georgia and into the Blue Ridge regions of those states.  This point may be found into the Coastal regions with decreased frequency.

Similar Points:
Brewerton Eared Triangle, Hardaway, Nolichucky, Pigeon Side Notch, Potts, Waratan
Related / Associated Points:
Yadkin
Additional Comments:

It has been suggested that this point followed the Yadkin point.  However, both points are commonly found in the same levels of sites from Georgia to North Carolina.  The two points probably represent two variations of the same point (Whatley, 2002).
