Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a broad medium to large triangular point with a flattened to elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily straight, but some examples have an excurvate blade.  The shoulders are weak and have an upward slope.  Parallel notches are low on the blade creating a very short expanding stem. The base is concave which may give the point the appearance of ears or articulates.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Size Measurements:  Total Length - 30 to 50 mm,  Stem Length to Center of Notch - 3 to 6 mm,  Blade Width - 20 to 30 mm,  Neck Width - 14 to 21 mm,  Basal Width - 16 to 24 mm (***based on small sample size***)

This point is primarily found in the coastal regions of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and into Delaware and New Jersey.  This point is found into the Piedmont of North Carolina and Virginia.

Distinguishable from the Potts Projectile point by the base, the Potts Point has a straight base where the Waratan Point has the concave base.  Both points may be found together.
