Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a thick small to medium triangular expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may vary from straight to excurvate.  The shoulders are sloped upwards.  The stem is expanding.  It constricts from the shoulders to midway of the stem and then expands towards the base.  The base is primarily straight, but may vary from slightly convex to slightly concave.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Size Measurements:  Total Length - 24 to 49 mm (average 37 mm), Stem Length - 7 to 12 mm,  Width - 16 to 30 mm (average 23 mm),  Stem Width - 11 to 20 mm,  Neck Width - 10 to 15 mm,  Thickness - 6 to 13 mm

This point is primarily found in Maryland and into Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.

Related / Associated Points:

Additional Comments:

Many researchers feel that this point is similar, or the same as, the Halifax point.  Others feel that this point is similar to, and often difficult to distinguish from, the Bare Island point (W10).

Ebright (1992), suggest that this point was used in the Late Archaic period and continued use into the early Woodland period.
