TAPPAN (Stemmed) – was originally named the Tappan Pinched Stem by self taught archaeologist Louis A. Brennan for examples recovered from the Twombly Landing site in the Hudson River drainage.  They are small (2”) projectiles and knives with straight to convex blade edges, well defined round shoulders, slightly constricted stems and round basal edges.  Distribution is New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and they were in use during the Archaic period.  References: Brennan, Louis A. 1968, The Twombly Landing Site.  The Bulletin, New York State Archaeological Association, No. 42, pp. 11-28, Ossining.    Fogelman, Gary 2007, Projectile Point Typology for Pennsylvania and the Northeast pg151.
