Johnson was an anthropologist and professor at California State University - Sacramento.  He fist identified this type with his students at the excavation of the Sutter site.  Doughtry is an archaeologist for a private research firm in California.  He has conducted many studies into the archaeology of California.  He named this type in his Master's thesis and it has many professional references.  This is considered a valid variant of the Gunther type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thin small triangular contracting stem point with a flattened cross section.  The blade is broad and straight, but may vary from slightly excurvate to slightly incurvate.  Most examples are finely serrated.  The shoulders have short barbs, generally not as long as the Gunther type.  The stem is contracting and may range from short to long.  This point commonly has a high quality of workmanship and has a random flaking pattern.
