Gagliano was an archaeologist and professor at Louisiana State University before founding Coastal Environments, Inc. This point was named in a professional publication, but has no professional references since that time.
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium triangular expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section. The blade has two or three pairs of notches and may range from excurvate to straight with a tip that may be obtuse to apiculate (chiseled). The shoulders are most commonly horizontal, but some examples may have upward sloping or slightly barbed shoulders. The stem may vary from straight to slightly expanding. This point has a random flaking pattern.

Total Length - 48 to 78 mm (average 62 mm), Stem Length - 7 to 14 mm, Blade Width - 25 to 40 mm (average 32 mm), Neck Width - 19 to 23 mm, Stem Width - 20 to 25 mm, Thickness - 8 to 13 mm (average 9 mm).

This point is thought to have evolved into the Tangipahoa point (MaGahey, 2000).
Justice (2002), does not include this point in the Kirk Stemmed cluster (he never addresses this point), but it has been included in this cluster because it is a variant from points in this cluster.
