Rio Grande Stemmed
Cluster: Bajada / Escobas Cluster
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large stemmed lanceolate point with and elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate, but may also be straight with the widest portion just above the mid-section.  The shoulders are weak to absent and have an upward angle.  The stem may range from straight to slightly contracting.  The stem is long, commonly being as long or longer than the blade.  The base varies from straight to concave.  Heavy grinding / smoothing is seen on the stem edges, but the base may only have light or no grinding present with basal thinning being commonly seen.  This point is made using direct percussion flaking with secondary pressure flaking used to along the edges forming a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 45 to 70 mm (average 60 mm),  Stem Width - 15 to 23 mm,  Blade Width - 20 to 30 mm (average 28 mm),  Basal Width - 11 to 18 mm
