Irwin-Williams was a distinguished anthropologist who did extensive work in Colorado and the surrounding region.  The studied, identified, and named the Picosa Archaic Culture.  This point was named in a professional publication and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large stemmed point with and elliptical cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate, but may also be straight.  The shoulders are weak to absent and have an upward angle.  The stem may range from straight to slightly expanding.  The stem is longer than most points and may be as long as the blade.  The base varies from straight to convex with basal and hafting region grinding present.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Total Length - 31 to 65 mm (average 47 mm),  Stem Length - 14 to 35 mm (average 25mm),  Blade Width - 15 to 42 mm (average 23 mm),  Stem Width at Shoulders - 13 to 38 mm (average 22 mm),  Basal Width - 9 to 17 mm (average 13 mm),  Thickness - 5 to 14 mm.

Point is found from Mexico to southern Arizona and into the central Rio Grande Valley in New Mexico and into Texas.  This type was reported at the la Paya site in northern Sonora, Mexico.
