Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a small pentagonal stemmed point with a flattened cross section.  The blade is excurvate with the widest part of the blade being the mid-point of the point.  The blade curves back in towards the shoulders.  The shoulders are weak to absent and at an upward angel.  The stem is short and slightly contracting.  The base varies fro straight to slightly concave.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Size Measurements:  Length - 21 to 42 mm (average 30 mm), Stem Length - 4 to 6 mm,  Blade Width - 12 to 26 mm (average 15 to 20 mm), Stem Width - 8 to 15 mm,  Neck Width - 5 to 12 mm,  Thickness - 7 to 15 mm (average 9 mm)

Turner et al. (2011) notes that type is primarily found along the old channel of the old Rio Grande between Chapote Creek and Arroyo Clareno in Zapata County, Texas and Tamaulipas, Mexico.

The first two pictures below were typed as Garza points.  More research and better definition between the two types are needed.  The primary difference seems to be the distribution of the two types.  The Revilla points are primarily found Zapata County region while Garza points are primarily found in the Trans Pecos and Big Bend region.

Kumpe is an avocational archaeologist who has  identified many sites in southern Texas and Mexico.  McRenyolds is a distinguished archaeological illustrator.  Chandler is a distinguished avocational archaeologist who has received awards for his contributions to Texas Archeology.  This type was identified for their work around Falcon Lake and has limited references.  This is considered a collectors type.
