Soday was a well-respected archaeologist conducted numerous surveys and excavations and is well published.  He served as the president of the Alabama Archaeological Society.  Bell was a professor of anthropology and Museum Curator in Oklahoma and did extensive work at the Spiro Mounds.  This type was named in a professional publication and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.
Panoche Side Notch

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thin small isosceles triangular side notch point with a flattened cross section.  The blade may vary from straight to slightly incurvate.  Wide parallel notches enter the blade forming horizontal shoulders and commonly a narrow neck.  The stem is expanded with a straight to deeply convex base.  The basal area is usually large in regard to the point. This point has a random flaking pattern.    
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 22 to 36 mm,  Stem Length - 10 to 14 mm,  Blade Width - 7 to 11 mm,  Neck Width - 5 to 7 mm,  Basal Width - 13 to 18 mm,  Thickness - 2 to 4 mm.

Justice (2002) views this as the Madonna Side Notch as having the same overall form as the Panoche type point.  The primary difference between these two types is that the Madonna Side Notch generally has a narrower notched which are placed higher on the preform forming a larger base than commonly seen on the Panoche type point.
