Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large lanceolate with a thin elliptical cross section. The blade is excurvate with the tip curving in, becoming almost parallel at about the mid-section, and curving back in towards
the base. Some examples curve back in on the bottom one third of the point and have a weak shoulder and contracting stem appearance. The base ranges from straight to slightly concave.
Fluting and basal thinning are absent, and light hafting region grinding is present on this type.

Distribution:
Distribution Comments:
This point is most commonly found in the upper Ohio River basin, but may have the same distribution as the related and similar Stringtown point.
Additional Comments:
The Ohio Archaeologist Vol 51 (2001) report that both McConnell Lanceolates and Stringtown points were found at the same levels at the Loader Site, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
These points share many of the same characteristics as the Plainville points
of Ontario. They have the same square base, broad percussion flaking,
and slight notches towards the base.
