Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a medium to large lanceolate point with a median ridge on both faces. The blade is primarily excurvate towards the tip and parallel sides.  The bottom portion of the blade curves back in and has a slight notch where it turns in 6 to 12 mm above the base.   The base is straight to slightly concaved with a distinctive "square"  base appearance.  Light basal and hafting region grinding is present.  This point has a collateral flaking pattern formed by percussion flaking. 

Size Measurements:  Length - 30 to 178 mm (mean 83 mm),  Width -  20 to 46 mm (mean 30 mm),  Thickness - 4 to 10 mm (mean 6 mm),  Basal Width - 15 to 23 mm (mean 21 mm) (Ontario Archaeological Society - London Chapter).

This point is most commonly recognized in southern Ontario from Rice Lake to Leamington.  This point could extend into the Great Lakes regions of Michigan.

Additional Comments:

The London Chapter of the Ontario Archaeological Society notes that this is similar to the Plainview point, but is a "more broadly expanding " point.  These point also have a slight notch (when perceivable) 6 to 12 mm above the base.

These points have many of the same characteristics of the McConnell point from Ohio.  They exhibit the same broad flaking pattern, the square base, and the slight notches towards the base.
