Webb began his academic career as a physicist working in the Department of Physic at the University of Kentucky in 1908. He contributed to the founding, and became the Department Chair for the Department of Anthropology at the University of Kentucky in 1926. Dejarnette what the first anthropologist hired by the University of Alabama and was an expert on southeastern archaeology. This point was named in a professional publication and has many professional references. This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large (2.25 to 3.5 inches) triangular stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is narrow and primarily excurvate, but occasionally may be straight. The blade is commonly asymmetrical. The shoulders may vary from horizontal to having an upward angle. The stem is long and may range from parallel to slightly contracting. The base is straight and may have an unfinished appearance. Basal grinding is usually present. This point has a random flaking pattern.

Total Length - 54 to 90 mm (average 65 to 75 mm), Stem Length - 9 to 20 mm (average 12 to 18 mm), Blade Width - 22 to 37 mm (average 24 to 31 mm), Stem Width at Shoulders - 14 to 23 mm (average 16 to 18 mm), Basal Width - 9 to 19 mm (average 14 to 15 mm), Thickness - 7 to 11 mm

Points in this cluster were commonly used from the late Archaic period through the early to middle Woodland period (Justice 1987).

Most points in this cluster belong to the Adena culture centered in the Ohio River valley. This point is not part of the Adena culture, but is included in this cluster because it correlates morphologically and within the same time frame and geographically as the other points.

Adena points are believed to have evolved from the Cresap point, however, this point does not have the same origins.

This point is similar to the Kramer point, but this point generally has a narrower stem and is centered in the Tennessee River valley, while the Kramer point has a wider stem and is centered in the Ohio River valley (Cambron / W14).
