Additional Comments:

Cook (1967) lists this as a Hayes variation found at Cueva de la Nopalera. When Cook and Tolstoy conducted their research, they used Texas topology and applied those names to points with similar outline. They did not take into account, or have access to, the normal distribution of each point. The Hayes points are associated with the Spiro Mound and the adjacent region. They have been found on trading routes into the Cahokia region. They have not been reported into central or southern Texas or southern Tamaulipas or the Tehuacan Valley. In addition, these points were dart points while Hayes points were arrow points. Either these points migrated into the Spiro region influencing the Hayes points, or (more likely) these points are independent and not related to the Hayes points. The name Hayes Grande has been retained for this type.
