Loyd Doty notes:
VIZCAÍNO (Corner Notch) - is a Spanish surname. This point
type was named by archaeologist Eric Ritter based on examples he studied in
collections found in the Vizcaíno Desert, Baja California. They are large (3” to 5”) knives with convex blade edges, barbed
shoulders, corner notches and bulbous bases. Distribution is limited to the immediate area of discovery and they
were in use during the middle Archaic period. Reference: Ritter, Eric W. 2006b. The Vizcaíno Desert. In The Prehistory of Baja
California: Advances in the Archaeology of the Forgotten Peninsula,
