Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a small to medium triangular stemmed point with a flattened to elliptical cross section.  The blade varies from slightly excurvate to straight.  There is a single notch on one or both blades.  The notch placement may range from just above the shoulder when both blades are notched, to entering at the shoulder when the notch is on a single blade.  The shoulders are most commonly slightly barbed, but may range to horizontal.  The stem varies form slightly contracting to slightly expanding.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

This point is primarily associated with the coastal regions of the Portland Basin of Oregon and Washington.

Humphreys (OAS Screenings, 1971) writes that these points are "so crudely worked, with twists and bends, that one would swear that they were meant to shoot around corners"  It is thought that these points were used to tip bone harpoons and were not used for arrow points.

George and Irene Warner were avocational archaeologists and members of the Oregon Archaeological Society who conducted salvage excavations at the Trojan site in Columbia County.  This type was named in the excavation reports of the site.  This type has limited professional references into the early 1980's but has had no references since that time.  This type has many collector type references.  This is considered a collector type.
