Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thin small to medium ovoid point with a thin elliptical cross
section. The blade is excurvate with the widest portion of the
blade being about the mid-point. The base ranges from straight to
convex or pointed with rounded basal corners. This point is
commonly crudely made with a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements: Length - 28 to 42 mm ( average 34 to 39 mm), Blade Width -
13 to 22 mm (average 15 to 19 mm), Width/Length ratio - 0.33 to .066 mm

This point was reported at the Helen Point site on Maynes Island.
May be found throughout southwestern British Columbia and into
northwestern Washington. Full distribution not known.

Point Validity: Provisional Type
Carlson is a distinguished anthropologist and professor for the Department
of Anthropology, University of Washington. Carlson has conducted extensive
studies into the archaeology of Canada. This point was identified in a
professional publication. Currently only two examples have been recovered
from the southwestern Yukon ice patches. More research is needed on
this type. This is
considered a provisional type.

Age Details:
At Helen Point these points were found in Mayne
phase levels dating between 5,420 +/- 230 and 3,690 +/- 70 B.P. (Carlson,
2001)
