This is a medium to large lanceolate point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is most
commonly an inward recurvate. The base ranges from straight to concave and may have basal thinning or
grinding. The most common
flaking pattern in oblique parallel with random flaking also being common.

This point is primarily found in northern Illinois and the upper to mid Illinois River basin.

This type is similar to, if not the same as, Angostura points. Fowler (1954), discusses the Starved Rock point in relationship to the Angostura point. The two types were so similar that he uses the
radiocarbon dating from the Angostura site in determining the age of this type.
