Caine was a well published archaeologist who conducted extensive studies throughout Minnesota and Canada. E. Johnson is often given credit for this type, he was the editor for the publishing company.  This type was named in the survey of the Snake River basin of Minnesota and has many professional references.  This is considered a valid type.


St. Croix Corner Notch
Cluster: Late Woodland Stemmed / Corner Notch Cluster
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small thin corner notch point with a flattened cross section.  The blade is primarily excurvate.  Notches are moderately deep and well made forming shoulders that are barbed with an expanding stem.  The base is convex but may vary to almost straight.  Commonly the base has a “Dovetail” appearance and lacks any basal grinding.  This point is manufactured using pressure flaking forming a random flaking pattern.

Total Length - 19 to 40 mm,  Blade Width - 11 to 20 mm
