Socorra Projectile Point
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a medium triangular barbed stem point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may range from straight to slightly excurvate with many examples having a needle like tip.  The shoulders are barbed and commonly has thin needle like barbs and turn inward.  The stem is long and may range from straight to slightly expanding with a base that varies from straight to slightly convex with rounded basal corners.  This point has a random flaking pattern.    

Size Measurements:  Total Length - 43 to 61 mm,  Stem Length - 11 to 16 mm,  Max Blade Width - 22 to 31 mm,  Stem Width - 7 to 11 mm (***based on small sample size ***)

Distribution Comments:
Distribution information is limited.  It is reported in Northern Mexico and into New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas.  It is unclear if this type extends to Socorro County, New Mexico.
