Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular contracting stem point with an
elliptical cross section. The blade ranges from excurvate to
almost straight. The shoulders range from weak to prominent
and from horizontal to having an upward angle. The stem is
contracting with a convex base. This point has a random flaking
pattern.
Size Measurements: Length - 34 to 90 mm (average 45 to 63 mm), Blade Width -
12 to 50 mm (average 21 to 30 mm), *** Width/Length ratio: 35 to 85 mm
(average 41 to 54 mm) ***

This point was reported at Departure Bay and throughout site in the
Puget Sound. May be found throughout southwestern British Columbia
and into northwestern Washington. Full distribution not known.

This ration should be larger than .35 otherwise evaluate the point and
consider the DeStaffany Stemmed type (Carlson, 2011)
**** Carlson included smaller points with a slight contracting stem and
straight base as well as points with a slightly contracting stem and a
straight base in this type. He noted that these point probably should
have been sub-typed out, but left them in this type. The dates of all
these types of point as well as the over all measurements were included
which could account for the broad dates that this type was used as well as
the broad variations in measurements. The smaller and larger points
with more rectangular stems are not shown below.

Carlson is a distinguished anthropologist and professor for the Department
of Anthropology, University of Washington. Carlson has conducted extensive
studies into the archaeology of Canada. This point was identified in a
professional publication. Currently only two examples have been recovered
from the southwestern Yukon ice patches. More research is needed on
this type. This is
considered a provisional type.
