Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:

This is a large triangular basal notch point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade is broad and excurvate.  Notches enter from the base of the point forming shoulders that are barbed and often extend to the base of the point.  The stem may vary from straight to slightly expanding.  The base ranges from slightly convex to slightly concave.  This point has a random flaking pattern.

Size Measurements:  Total Length - 70 to 120 mm,  Stem Length - 14 to 18 mm,  Blade Width - 40 to 60 mm,  Stem Width - 17 to 22 mm,  Notch Width - 7 to 11 mm (***based on small sample size***)

This point is primarily found in the Little River Valley of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

This point is reported to be similar to the Ouachita type point, but the Little River has a wider stem (approx. 1/3 wider) with  rounded barbs generally extend to the base.  The outer edge of the barb is generally straighter than the Ouachita point.  The stem on the Ouachita point is narrower with pointed barbs that extend approx. half the length of the stem and the outer edge of the barb curves in towards the base.
