Justice is a distinguished archaeologist and Assistant Director and Curator of Collections at Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology at Indiana University.  This point was named in his book on points of the Southwest.  There are currently few professional references to this type, but that may be due to the limited distribution and number of examples.  This is considered a valid type.
Kelsey Creek Barbed
Cluster: Big Valley Cluster
Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium to large triangular expanding stem point with an elliptical cross section.  The blade may vary from straight to excurvate.  Heavily re-sharpened examples may have a recurvate blade.  The shoulders are primarily barbed, but may be diminished with heavily re-sharpened examples.  The stem is expanding and is generally long with a narrow neck.  However, notch placement will vary the width of the neck.  The base may vary from straight to slightly convex.  This point has a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 28 to 87 mm,  Stem Length - 13 to 19 mm,  Blade Width - 24 to 40 mm,  Stem Width at Shoulders - 10 to 17 mm,  Basal Width - 14 to 21 mm,  Thickness - 6 to 12 mm

Additional Comments:

The exact distribution of this point is poorly known.  It is know to be found through-out the northern coastal ranges of California, and has been reported into southern Oregon.  However, the Oregon distribution overlaps that of the smaller newer Trinity Barbed point which may be difficult to distinguish.  This overlap becomes problematic with the distribution (Justice, 2002).
