Ford is an archaeologist who cataloged the cultures of the lower Mississippi River valley.  He is most noted for conducting the first large scale excavation at Poverty Point.  In 1940 he became the charter member of the Society of American Archeology.  He conducted many collaborative excavations and conducted his own excavations at Poverty Point and Gahagan Mounds.  He named this point in a professional publication and this type has limited professional references.  This is a valid type

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a large triangular contracting stem blade with an elliptical cross section.  The blade and excurvate.  The shoulders are commonly upward angle but may vary to horizontal or slightly barbed..  The stem is broad, short, and contracting with a straight to slightly concave base.  This point has a random flaking pattern. 
Size Measurements:

Total Length - 70 to 110 mm,  Stem Length - 10 to 15 mm,  Blade Width - 25 to 50 mm,  Thickness - 8 to 13 mm (***based on small sample size***)

These points are similar to, and often called, the Bascom type which is primarily found in the Gulf Coastal region.
