Comment:  This point was first described and named the Dallas component by T.N.M Lewis and Madeline Kneberg in 1946 for the Dallas Focus of the Tennessee River.  Type Site Dallas Site (8HA1) Hamilton County, Tennessee
Point Validity: Valid type

Cambron is a distinguished avocational archaeologist that did extensive work in Alabama and the Tennessee River valley.  Hulse is a renowned avocational archaeologist who did extensive work in Alabama.  This point was named in a personally published book.  This point has been referred to in numerous professional publications and is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thin small to medium lanceolate with a flattened to thin elliptical cross section.  The blade is narrow and excurvate with the tip curving in and the edges becoming parallel.  The base is straight, but slight variations may occur.  Basal thinning is commonly present.  This point has a random flaking pattern and generally a high quality of workmanship.

Total Length- 27 to 50 mm (29 to 35 mm average),  Width - 10 to 18 mm (13 to 14 mm average),  Thickness - 4 to 6 mm

This point is commonly found in association with Madison and Fort Ancient points (Cambron and Hulse, 1975).

Dallas points named by T.N.M. Lewis are generally higher quality workmanship points while the Gunthersville type point is slightly cruder. The first and last picture would be classified as a Dallas point.
