Vietzen became interested in archaeology and anthropology at a young age.  He was from Ohio and conducted studies into the Great lakes Region.  He published many books on sites and cultures in the Great Lakes region.  This type was named in his book on the Erie Village and Burial sites.  This type has no or limited professional references, and many collector source references.  This is considered a cultural type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a small thin isosceles triangulate point with a flattened cross section.  The blade may range from slightly excurvate to slightly incurvate.  The base varies from straight to concave with sharp basal corners.  
Size Measurements:

Length - 13 to 55 mm (26 mm average),  Width - 12 to 25 mm (26 mm average),  Thickness - 3 to 6 mm
