Brown had a Doctorate in Comparative Literature and was a Professor at the University of Mississippi, Department of Romantic Languages. He kept a book of sites, collectors and collections through-out the Mississippi River Valley and published books on the Archeology of the Mississippi River Valley. McGahey is a professional archaeologist who served as the Chief Archaeologist for Mississippi Department of Archives and History as well as the Editor in of Mississippi Archeology until 1982. This point was named in a professional publication and has many professional references. This is considered a valid type.

Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a medium lanceolate stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is excurvate with the blade curing in at the tip and back in towards the waist. The shoulders are weak to absent and at an upward angle or rounded. The stem / waist is long and may vary from straight to slightly expanding. The base ranges from straight to slightly concave. Hafting and basal grinding is present. This point has a random flaking pattern.

These points are late Paleo points, but this type should not be used to describe any fluted Paleo period points (McGahey, 1981).
This point is similar the the Pelican point, but tends to have a longer hafting region than commonly seen on Pelican points.
