Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color:  Helderberg chert ranges from mottled white to light cream, light gray, and light blue commonly mottled and fossiliferous. 

Texture: 
Fine grain

Luster: Dull to waxy

Silica Fabrics / Fossils:  Fossils include brachiopods, crinoids, trilobites, coral and conodonts. 

Patina: The patina is lighter than the interior color, usually a white to grayish white.
