New Scotland Chert is associated with the New Scotland Formation (Corriganville Limestone Formation) of the Helderberg Group of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia.  Outcroppings are found in the Hudson Valley, western Maryland, and in the Hollybrook, Rocky Gap, and Saltville regions of Virginia.  The Minisink Limestone Member of the New Scotland Formation is commonly included in the New Scotland Formation (undivided) and is exposed near Minisink in the Minisink Hills of Orange County, New York.
