Appekunney Argillite is associated with the Appekunney Formation of the Belt Series of northwestern Montana and southeastern British Columbia.  Primary outcroppings occur in Glacier National Park in Montana, the Appekunney Mountains of Montana and the Lewis and Livingston ranges.
