Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is
a small (1.25 to 1.75 inch) triangular stemmed to expanding stem point with a flattened cross section. The blade is primarily straight with a sharp tip. The stem is long and
slightly expanding. The base may range from straight to slightly
convex. This point has a random flaking pattern.

Converse (1994) describes an Early Archaic "Hafted Shafted Scrapper" that was found through-out the Ohio River Basin. This was found to be the same type as the Edgefield Scrapper found in the Gulf Coastal region.

Distribution Comments:
This scrapper is most commonly associated with the Gulf coastal states. Dunnell et al (1970) reports this type at the Sloan Site in Pike County Kentucky. This type extends into Texas where it is referred to as Albany or Albany-Edgefield. Converse (1994) reports this type through-out the Ohio River Basin. This type may extend greater than shown above.
