Description of Physical Characteristics and Flaking Pattern:
This is a thick crudely made medium triangular stemmed to expanding stemmed point with an elliptical cross section. The blade is primarily excurvate, but may vary to straight. The shoulders are prominent and may vary from horizontal to having an upward angle. The stem is short and usually straight, but may range to slightly expanding. The base is concave with no hafting region grinding. This point has a random flaking pattern.
Size Measurements:
Total Length - 26 to 40 mm (average 36 mm), Stem Length - 6 to 9 mm, Blade Width - 19 to 39 mm (average 25 mm), Stem at Shoulders - 11 to 17 mm, Basal Width - 13 to 20 mm, Thickness - 7 to 10 mm (average 8 mm).

Stanly points found in Alabama differ from Beachum points by having broader shoulders, a more triangular blade, and a bifurcated stem all of which are not seen in the Beachum type point (Brooks, 1979).

Radiocarbon dating at the Hester site placed this point at 5015 +/- 180 or 5,000 B.C. These points were found in levels above Pine Tree type points and in levels below Eva and Morrow Mountain type points.
