Vinni Chert is associated with the Vinni Formation of Nevada.  Named for exposures along Vinni Creek on the north side of the Roberts Mountains.  Chert composes most of the Vinni Formation exposures occurring as beds and lenses in the Adobe Range, along Maggie and Cottonwood creeks and throughout the southern Independence Range, in the southern Tucarora Mountains near Papoose Canyon and along Willow Creek, Yahoo Canyon in the northern Mahogany Hills and at Devils Gate on the eastern and southern slopes of Lone Mountain, Copenhagen Canyon in the Monitor Range, Simpson Park Mountains, Toquima Range, and the Cortex Mountains.
