Thoroughfare Quartzite is associated with the Thoroughfare Formation of the Grand Mann Group of New Brunswick.  Named for exposures on the northern end of Ross Island on the eastern side of The Thoroughfare, Grand Manan Island, Charlotte County, New Brunswick.  Exposures occur on the northern third of Ross Island, southwestern Nantucket Island and on western White Head Island..
