Description of Physical Characteristics:

Color: South Sauceda Mountains Obsidian ranges from a translucent greenish brown to an opaque black.  Green with black banded and light gray with black banding also occurs.  The cortex is a water worn gray.

South Sauceda Mountains Obsidian is associated with the Sauceda Volcanics occurring as marekanites / nodules (up to 11 cm) with the primary source believed to be the degraded rhyolite domes at the south end of the Sauceda Mountains with the secondary source along Sauceda Wash, Maricopa County, Arizona.
