Skidmore Island Chert
Description of Physical Characteristics:
Color: Skidmore
Island Chert is homogenous and ranges from a white to a cream or light
tan. However this material is highly absorbent so artifacts will
absorb the minerals in the soil so artifacts in iron rich environments
will turn a yellowish orange and artifacts in magnesium rich
environments will turn gray to black.

Skidmore Island Chert is associated with an unknown geological formation
in the Atlantic Ocean, but is thought to occur as nodules and is found
on Skidmore Island and along the Atlantic Coast of Virginia.
