Distribution Comments:

Wapsipinicon Chert was originally thought to be associated with the Middle Dovonian Wapsipincon Group.  Further research has suggested that it is associated with the Upper/Lower Silurian Group,  Scotch Grove Formation.  It has also been suggested that it is associated with the Grand Meadow Formation of the Middle Donovian which is almost identical.  Further research is needed to ascertain the exact association.  Primary outcroppings have been reported in Cedar River and Lake Macbride in Linn and Jones counties, Iowa.
